Making the Most of a Motorhome Rental, Adelaide Adventure

South Australia, in which the state’s capital city Adelaide resides, offers an endless variety of sights, destination, exploration and adventure possibilities and opportunities. When visiting Adelaide, though, a campervan or motorhome rental renders far more destinations possible than with a simple car. South Australia itself is a relatively large state on the Australian continent and the number of sites reachable from Adelaide by motorhome is truly impressive. Sites sitting a bit farther away from Adelaide, yet still easily accessible through motorhome rental, include Clare Valley and McLaren Vale as well as Barossa Valley and famed Wilpena Pound.

Clare Valley is one of the oldest wine regions in all of Australia and is famous throughout the country for the quality of its Riesling wines. Located about 120 kilometres from Adelaide proper, Clare Valley sits in the Mid North of South Australia. The main thoroughfare allowing travelers to reach the valley is Horrocks Highway. It’s a place of rolling hills and beautiful landscapes dotted with stone buildings and set off by the nearby Skilly Hills. Many wineries dot Clare Valley and visitors piloting a motorhome, campervan or caravan are advised to make use of nearby caravan parks, where such vehicles can find overnight accommodation. There are, in fact, many such motorhome and caravan parks in and around Clare Valley, many with complete facilities such as electricity, showers, barbeque pits and running water.

McLaren Vale Motorhome Opportunities

No motorhome rental, Adelaide and surrounding areas excursion would be complete without a visit to another South Australia wine region, the McClaren Vale. One of the more attractive aspects of renting a motorhome or campervan and then heading to McLaren Vale is that it lays only about 35 kilometres south of Adelaide itself, meaning it can easily be reached in less than a half-hour. Approximately 2,000 year-round residents populate the actual town and the wines this beautiful region produces are internationally renowned, making it a must-see destination for an overnight, or two, motorhome or campervan excursion. Conveniently, a number of overnight caravan and motorhome parks dot the area around McLaren Vale, including on several thoroughfares near Main Road, Tatachilla Road and Kangarilla Road.

Barossa Valley and Wilpena Pound

Barossa Valley is yet another South Australia wine region, this one about 60 kilometres to the northeast of Adelaide. Many wineries dot the Barossa Valley landscape, too, and every two years the world renowned Barossa Valley Vintage Festival, a week-long celebration brings visitors from all over the world. Renting a motorhome and visiting the Barossa Valley during its festival should definitely be on the itinerary of every visitor to Adelaide. Wilpena Pound, lying more than 420 kilometres to the north of Adelaide, is more than just a day trip via motorhome, it must be said, but is well worth the expedition. It is a place of stunning rock formations and mountains that must be seen. Both Barossa Valley and areas near to Wilpena Pound offer plenty of opportunities for overnight or longer campervan and motorhome stays. Roads and thoroughfares leading to Wilpena Pound are well-maintained and fast, as well.
