Rotorua and its Lake of the same name are situated in the central North Island and famous for both Maori culture active geothermal activity. With steaming geysers, bubbling mud and thermal pools, this fascinating location in the heart of NZ is well worth including on your itinerary. You can spend time here witnessing the volcanic activity in one of the thermal parks, or immerse yourself in Maori culture at a living village. There’s plenty of other things to keep you busy including the adrenaline rush of the Skyswing or Zorbing, or check out NZ’s native wildlife at Paradise Valley Springs. In the surrounding areas you can take your time exploring the many lakes, or head off to larger Lake Taupo in the central North Island for some more amazing campervan vistas.
