Compass Campers UK Review

Editors Review

Compass Campers have numerous locations across the UK but have a limited variety of motorhomes. The company itself is run by a relatively popular booking engine, Motorhome Republic.

What Compass Campers Tells Us

Being under a bigger fish like Motorhome Republic, Compass Campers has its own share of leads and drawbacks. As the company is handled by a search engine, you have no chance of talking directly to the owners of the motorhomes during the booking stage. You will deal with third party staff, who probably have lesser ideas with the entirety of the units. However, this will be a good setup for the owners as their vehicles are marketed by a popular booking engine with bigger audience, enabling them to undercut the rental competition. For the part of the renters, they will be happy with the possible cheaper rates that may be more competitive than the suppliers. With Compass Camper, they have several branches across the UK, giving convenience to all their renters.

Fleet

The Compass Campers' fleet is made up of only three motorhome options but these are backed up by Motorhome Republic so the rates are pretty competitive for a low-cost holiday. All units are 2013- 2017 manual motorhomes that are totally complete in package, from on-board facilities to generous extras. Hence, these motorhomes are pretty good deals, especially that every unit has a fitted out bathroom with shower and toilet, well-equipped kitchen and spacious beds. Cutlery, crockery, TV/ DVD and bike rack are also already included in the rental. And it's likely possible that the company will allow you to let your furry friend inside the vehicle!

Vehicles

Chausson Flash 02 04

The Chausson Flash 02 04 is a small but compact motorhome that is ideal for couples with or without a kid as it features one double bed as well as a single bed. With a full size height and a versatile length, this vehicle can normally be parked in an average car park. The two front swivel seats make a good seating addition to the dinette in the living area. The bathroom with shower and toilet is positioned at the back, beside the rear double bed. For your comfort, this petite motorhome also comes with a nice kitchen with fridge, gas hob, grill and heating for your cooking series and a useful bike rack for your outdoor adventures.

Chausson Flash 03

This Chauson Flash model is tagged as the Medium motorhome with one luton king-sized double bed, two rear bunk beds, and a double dinette sleeper, making it perfect for a family of 6. Aside from the normal facilities inside, the unit comes with a large garage that acts as spacious storage area for your outdoor equipment or even a full-sized dog crate. That means that there's a possibility to tag along your furry friend during your holiday!

Chausson Flash 25

A motorhome that seats 6 but sleeps 7, the Chausson Flash 25 or the Large motorhome is suitable for groups who want to have luxury space while travelling. Stretch out your arms or walk around inside conveniently. Unlike the other two motorhomes, this particular model has an extra table with seat adjacent to the dinette, which can be your working station. This additional facility also converts into a small, single bed for a kid up to 4'10". Normal sleeping places are also similar to the 6 berth motorhome一 cab over double bed, rear bunk beds and convertible dinette. A roomy garage is also designed at the back of the unit.

Insurance

Before starting with your holiday, you need to pay the security bond amounting to £1250 through credit card. This amount is for the insurance excess. You have the option to avail of the DriveEasy Premium Excess Cover at £ 16.95/ day, which will pay you for the excess charges with a maximum of £3000. This also includes coverage for single vehicle accidents as well as damage for tyre, windscreen, undercarriage, overhead and third party. Aside from that, you can add Collision Damage Waiver at a certain amount to reduce the insurance excess and security deposit from £1250 to £120 per insurable incident.

Reputation

Compass Campers knows how to play the game and takes advantage of being part of a huge corporation like Motorhome Republic. Hence, they can provide quality motorhome rentals at low-budget prices. However, there's also a disadvantage as the owners couldn't personally handle their renters, dismissing friendlier and personalized rental ambiance. Still, their limited selection of motorhomes can fit almost any budget.

Summary

As Compass Campers tends to focus on the lower end of budget rentals, they attract those looking for ways to have a cheap yet comfortable motorhome hire. But with the limited choices, you may want to go with a company that offers more options with greater facilities for a higher price.

"Lovely time in Scotland"

  • Reviewed 4 years ago

We had an excellent 7 days just outside Pitlochry. Weather was magnificent and the site at Milton of Fordan was very clean and welcoming. Just a tem minute walk from an Inn right on the banks of the Tummle river where salmon were jumping all day. Lovely time had by all.
