Adding new motorhomes every year, Clippership Motorhome Rentals offers an extensive mix of new and old luxury Class A and Class C models in Alaska.
Clippership Motorhome Rentals is one of the biggest and popular motorhome rentals in Alaska, providing several options to small families and large groups. Being a popular RV rental company, it has catered to a lot of renters over the years. However, it appears that their popularity isn't on the right track. There are reports of issues with maintenance, as well as unpleasant customer service. Like most companies, these issues are sporadic and only appear as a small percentag, but still those people have been quite vocal about it. Still, their RV rental packages are cheaper than many and they continue to be attractive by including unlimited generator use and unlimited miles in every rental - both of which can save a small fortun. They also offer a courtesy shuttle to and from your hotel during their business hours, and one way rentals for those wanting to explore cities other than Anchorage - a massive advantage over many other companies.
The fleet of Clippership Motorhome Rentals is wide ranging with a lot of selections for different number of travellers. The motorhomes vary in age— the Gold (2015- 2017 models), the Silver (2012-2014), Bronze (2011-2012) and Copper (2003-2008). Most Gold Units are close to brand new with upgraded flooring, step-up entertainment system, large beds with deluxe foams and power/ manual awning. On the other hand, all Copper units are older with basic amenities such as standard beds and storage tanks. However, every rental is stocked with linen package such as sheets, pillow, blanket, washcloth and pillowcases, and kitchen and cooking amenities like pots, pans, silverware, baking pan, microwave and more. On top of that, they supply you with cleaning essentials including broom, dustpan, trash bag and trashcan.
First in the Discovery Collection, the 32 ft. Turnagain Voyager is great for big families up to 8. To extend the space inside, there are two slide-outs situated in the sofa sleeper and bunk beds. The sleeping places are evenly distributed inside the vehicle— rear queen-sized bed, sofa sleeper, convertible dinette, overhead bunk and sliding bunk beds. And since this one is suited up for a family holiday, there are lots of overhead cabinets, and even dresser and wardrobe for your stuff.
With one slide-out, this 6-berth Class A RV is pretty spacious with less luxury add-ons. Still, all the needed camping facilities are supplied including gas stove, sink, refrigerator, pantry, dinette, shower and toilet. At the back, there is a walk-around queen bed good for two, while the front comes with an electric foldaway bed during day and an overhead queen bunk bed at night, as well as a transformable dinette and couch. For your bags, camping gears and other stuff, there are large outside storage bins.
The Denali Searcher comes in two sizes— 28' and 30'. Both RVs are ideal for a family of four but can cater up to 6 people, which means the bigger RV provides a more spacious layout than the smaller one. The motorhomes offer one slide-out in the living area and a basement storage for additional comfort. This lavish RV brings luxury in almost all corners, from the hardwood beau floor to the upgraded foams for the beds. And for your entertainment, expect for a flat TV with DVD player and MP3 hook-up.
The Adak Argonaut is a 5-berth motorhome with panoramic windows. There are two sizes for this Class C RV— the 21' and 23' units. These models are quite small compared to the bigger Class A units, but these are compact and very maneuverable models. The smaller Adak Argonaut tailors a nicely fitted transformable dinette in the living room, a queen-sized bed at the rear and a double bunk bed at the cab-over. For the bigger model at 23', it now provides an added couch in the living area.
Sleeping 4 people, the Yukon Dasher completes the Discovery Collection. At 19', this motorhome is quite petite but supplies you with almost all comforts in the living room. The small dinette could be an issue because of the limited space. Also, the sleeping places are located at the rear and cab-over only. So, if you're a bit particular with space restrictions, this one isn't for you.
On the other side of the fleet are the Sportsman Collections. The 29’ Class C Bunkhouse is suitable enough for families up to 8 as there are more than enough beds for each member on board— six single beds and one overhead queen-sized bed. This one has quite unique layout— instead of a queen bed at the rear, it comes with stacked bunks for 4 people. That is why there are two small windows at the back in each side. Aside from that, the shower and toilet are also separated.
Though this motorhome does not have a slide-out, it is recommended for its comforts and panoramic viewing because of its large side windows. The 29' Kenai Pathfinder suits up to 6 and still leaves extra space inside, especially at the rear area. Choose where you want to retreat— at the back queen bed, sofa sleeper, dinette or overhead bunks. Unlike most RV's, the shower and toilet are separated.
The Kennicot Prospector features two different sizes— the 22' sleeping 4 people and the 24' sleeping 5. The 22' motorhome may be small but it is compact and fuel-efficient compared to other Class C RVs because of its powerful engine. This particular unit has a distinct layout, offering a queen cab-over bed; hence leaving the space at the rear for the kitchen and shower & toilet. Aside from the overhead bed, the dinette and couch are transformable into a comfortable sleeping areas at night.
On the other hand, the 24' is perfect for a group of 4 but can easily cater up to 5 adults because of the added sleeping area. Offering a cornered rear queen bed, a queen over the cab bed and a convertible dinette, there's certainly a place for everyone on-board. The bigger size allows a more spacious interior with a roomy kitchen, over-sized refrigerator, and sizable bathroom
The smallest motorhome on fleet with a size of 19', the Kodiak Trekker is a Class B model that is more compact and fuel efficient that will easily take you up the Alaskan roads. This is great for backpackers who don't need any fancy extras but rather a nice and complete RV. Despite of the limited space, the unit still comes with a rear bathroom, as well as comfortable sleeping areas from the dinette and couch.
The Livengood Pioneer is one of the few luxury models of the Clippership Motorhome Rentals. For this particular model, it has three variations— 32', 33' and 35'. Both 32' and 35' are 4 berth motorhomes, while the 33' sleeps up to 5 people. All comforts of a motorhome, along with some added frills like slide-outs and internal walk through, are beautifully tailored in these luxury RVs.
Every rental comes with a 50,000 up to $100, 000 bodily injury liability per person, $25, 000 property damage liability that covers damage while on a public road and not while off-road. For the deductible, it is amounting to $2,500. There are additional insurance options for the renters, depending on the rented vehicle: Collision Damage Waiver at $21/ day with $0 deductible for Class C windshield and $31/ day with 50% deductible for Class A windshield. Aside from that, there is also the Inclusive Damage Waiver at $31/ day with $0 deductible for Class C windshield and $41/ day with 50% deductible for Class A windshield. The damage deposit is amounting to $500.
Clippership Motorhome Rentals is undeniably a large RV rental with a very extensive fleet of motorhomes, ranging from Class A to Class C and even toy haulers. But this does not mean the company is perfect enough for a smooth holiday on the road as their reputation is stained with mostly negative feedback. Despite of having a not-so-appealing image, the company remains to a popular choice among small families and larger groups, especially that they have a very nice social media marketing, plus an efficient website.
Though they give a lot of choices for prospect renters, you should take into account the reviews from previous customers. Customer service and well-maintained units are very much important aspects when it comes to RV rentals. Don't fall for very low rates as this may be an indication of something fishy. Still, you can give them a try and see for yourself if Clippership Motorhome Rentals is not what the social media tells us.

Tell the world about your experience renting from this companyYou get what you pay for, or in some cases you don't. We were supposed to pick up our RV at 1:30pm and ended up standing around in the parking lot waiting for our rental for 3 hours. We asked if we could return it 3 hours later to compensate for the wait time and were told no. They did begrudgingly offer to refund us for half of our first day of the rental and then never did. We were also supposed to receive an electrical adapter with the rental and our unit didn't have one. Also, note that when you arrive they'll show you a list of things you can purchase for extra, like the water regulator that you need to have if you're hooking up to an RV park water line (if it's required, wouldn't you think it would be included?) and RV toilet paper. I understand not providing a bunch of toilet paper in the unit, but a courtesy roll would be nice to get you started. When we asked to purchase some additional TP they then told us they were out and they only had one water regulator. We were renting two RVs. Also note that while pots, pans, silverware, and a coffee maker are included there are no plates, bowls or cups provided. You'll be able to cook food, but you better be prepared to eat it out of the pan directly. We also had multiple dash warning lights come on during our trip, but luckily we never broke down. The carbon monoxide detector had also been removed from the unit, the vent fan on the stove didn't work, multiple curtains were broken, and the furniture and floor were dirty. We cleaned the floor at least 3 times and didn't seem to make a dent. We were super lucky to have family in the area that helped outfit us with stuff to make our stay comfortable and anything we did purchase we made sure to give to people at the campground. Another renter that returned while we were waiting said they ended up having to go to Good Will to buy supplies. The price may make Clippership seem like a good deal, but I'd go with someone like Great Alaskan Holidays instead. Other campers we talked to in the RV parks who used them said their experiences were great.
DO NOT EVER RENT FROM HERE!!Everything about this place from the reception to the rental to the return was horrible. It stinks ? and not clean at all. Everything was broken and they still wanted me to pay full price. Luda the owner or whatever she is not friendly at all and rude. I don’t even know how they are in business. I would never tell my family to ever rent from there. Each and every single one of us had problems. Am just saying if you want to try this place I feel sorry for you. Why not spend a little more and go to GREAT ALASKA. MOTORHOME or somewhere else. THE WORST PLACE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. EVEN THE RECEPTION AREA STINK SO BAD.
Their RVs are absolutely unreliable and ill-maintained. They sent me off in a vehicle with a massive fuel leak. I only realized the problem hours outside of anchorage when I went to fuel up. On inspection of the problem it was clear that they had TWICE inadequately tried to repair the fuel line and did not do so up to any reasonable safety standards. Gasoline was SPILLING on the ground. I was in the middle of no where and they have absolute no emergency number. Also AAA will not help if you are in a Motorhome in case you are wondering. It was15 degrees out, I was alone and stranded at a one gas station town and I had to rely on the kindness of strangers to make it back to anchorage in one piece. Missed out on a day and a half of my vacation and then Clippership nickel and dimed me....they had NO interest in making the situation right at all. There are other options out there!!! However nice these prices may seem do not do it!!! Go with one of the other outfits in town and save your vacation and keep yourself safe!!
My photo isn't great quality but that is a 4-5 inch long crack on a shoddily repaired fuel line.
***UPDATE*** 4/10/18 despite having a signed document from them agreeing that I returned the RV without damage, I still have not been reimbursed my $500 deposit (I returned the RV 10 days ago), nor have I been reimbursed the day+ that I missed, nor have I been reimbursed the funds spent out of my own pocket to get the mechanically broken RV back to them in anchorage.
***UPDATE*** 4/10/18 - I tried calling the company, and they are refusing to reimburse me for the gas I spent trying to get the broken RV back to them and wanting to charge me for not refilling the tank to the broken RV - mind you I wasted a day and ended up right where I started ANNNNDDD the fuel line was broken!!!!! Trying to fill the tank meant that gasoline was leaking all over the pavement!!! THIS ENTIRE COMPANY IS A COMPLETE FRAUD.
