Renting out small to medium-sized units, Canberra Campervan Hire has only two rental options—the economy campervans and luxury motorhomes—and one depot location.

About Canberra Campervan Hire

Canberra Campervan Hire focuses on both budget and luxury rentals. However, there aren't many choices on hand so you will not have a headache choosing the model that fits your preferences. Actually, having only two types of rental and one depot have its share of positive and negative aspects. Well, they could be very much hands-on with every rental and brings a more homey touch to your campervan hire. But also, they dismiss options for bigger groups and pick-up and drop-off may be a struggle. Yet this modest campervan hire allows you to experience the Canberra charm through their limited fleet of campervans and motorhomes that are family-friendly.

Fleet

The selection of rental units spins around two options—the economy campervan and luxury motorhome. For those budget-based backpackers up to 3, the Discovery is recommended, while the 4 berth Ovation is suited for luxury travellers. The two vehicles are pretty much unique in style, sleeping capacity, target market, as well as features and inclusions. But both units are equipped with child safety gear like anchor point, so you can bring your adorable kids on-board.

Vehicles

2- 3 berth Discovery

A 2-3 berth campervan, the Discovery is a convenient option for those on budget. This economy campervan features a 2012 Toyota Hiace base model with automatic transmission. Running on AutoGas or LPG, it will automatically change over to petrol when you press of a certain button or even when you run out of gas. Aside from saving money from fuel usage, the vehicle provides 3 front seats with seat belts, including 1 child restraint anchor point.

At day time, relax on the sofa/ table that easily transforms into a pleasant triple bed. The kitchen is equipped with a sink, 3 burner cook-top, microwave oven, fridge, pots, pans, cutlery, and plenty of cupboards. For added comfort, plus entertainment, listen to your favorite tracks through the car stereo radio with CD, USB player, and Bluetooth or keep track with some TV series using the HD TV with DVD, PVR, and USB players. There's also the awning and camping seats and table for outdoor fun. However, only a cassette toilet can be fitted out inside, so you are provided with an external cold shower. Though no roof-rack, you can still stack your adventure gears like fishing rods, surfboard, and skiing equipment on the floor, just between the sofas.

4 berth Ovation

The luxury Ovation is a fancy treat for high-end travellers. This self-contained 4 berth motorhome is based on a powerful Fiat Ducato and provides solar power and inverter for a hassle-free road trip. Hence, there's generally no need for a 240 V power and the caravan park! The unit comes with very comfortable sleeping quarters featuring an innerspring and foam mattress.

Relax on the roomy lounge with table and comfortable sitting while you watch movies from the complete entertainment set. Or you can opt for a more laid-back drama outside with the help of the outdoor awning, table, and chairs. For your privacy, you are supplied with integrated window screen/blinds. Compared to the budget campervan, this one has two shower options— internal and outdoor. Plus, vanity unit and roof rack for everyone on-board!

Insurance

The daily rental rates include comprehensive insurance, but the amount of excess varies with the driver's age and experience. What's not included in the rental charges is the bond amounting to $2,000 for the luxury Ovation and $1,500 for economical Discovery. Compared to most rental companies, the bond is payable thru cash, bank cheque, or electronic fund transfer. No credit card option.

Reputation

Only one depot and just two types of vehicles on offer, Canberra Campervan Hire isn't tainted at all with those large rental companies in Australia and remains to be one of the popular choices in Australia's dear capital city, Canberra. Specializing in a limited fleet of economy campervans and luxury motorhomes, the company still amazes renters with their family-friendly units and more personalized rentals.

Summary

This campervan hire from Canberra is reputable enough for a budget or fancy holiday. The campervans and motorhomes, however, will just attract those groups up to 3 or 4.

"Dated Discovery Campervan"

  • Reviewed 5 years ago

We recently hired the Discovery Campervan for a month. The Campervan runs well mechanically but the van and inclusions are very dated. Not having cruise control on lengthy trips is not ideal. We experienced ongoing issues with the gas cooktop which required us to locate and organise repairs on two separate occasion. Even though we were reimbursed for repairs undertaken, this was not only inconvenient but delayed our travel plans. Unfortunately, the TV in the campervan wouldn’t work in regional areas with the antenna provided, this required us to purchase a digital antenna.
In summary, if you hire this campervan plan extra days for running repairs.
