On July 4th, Americans hit the road. In 2018, nearly 47 million people traveled 50 miles or more for the holiday and that number is expected to rise again this year. Everything comes together in July.

Between the hot summer temperatures, long days, and festivities, it’s the perfect opportunity to bust out of town and head on an adventure. So, whether you just have a few days off or are planning a month-long RV rental road trip, be sure to check out these unbeatable Fourth of July destinations. 

1) See the Fireworks at Atlanta’s Centennial Park

Make sure you arrive early because Atlanta’s Centennial Park is one of the most popular events in the South and offers everything you need for an exciting holiday. The day’s packed with exciting activities, live music, and incredible food. This year food trucks from some of the top spots in town including Atlanta’s Seafood Company and Coach’s Joes Food truck will be serving up both local favorites and dishes from around the world. More than anything, you stick around for the fireworks display at night which many consider to be the best in the country. You can even register for parking ahead of time. 

2) Soak up the Sites on a Chicago Cruise

Crowds and live music are fantastic, but if you want something quieter then head to Chicago’s famed Navy Pier. Downtown Chicago by itself is definitely worth checking out on the holiday, but then you’ll want to head on to Lake Michigan and enjoy the sights and sounds of the holiday from one of the cruise liners. 3) Savor the Big Bay Boom in San Diego

San Diego’s Big Bay Boom is one of the most spectacular in the US because the entire show happens over water. You can really get into the holiday by checking out the USS Midway, enjoying a flagship cruise, and checking out Seaport Village. You also have many different options for where to see the shoe. You can relax near the beach on Harbor Island or be in the middle of the fun in Coronado.  San Diego also has amazing RV parks like Campland on the Bay which features full hookups, a pool, and its own holiday celebrations. 4) Get Ready to Party in Las Vegas

5) Capital Spirit: Washington DC

You can check out the different historical attractions as well before heading over to see the fireworks at the National Mall. Downtown DC is a little tricky for RVs, but you can stay in nearby Cherry Hills Park. It has a range of excellent amenities including a pool and propane refill, and you can easily catch a shuttle right into the heart of the city. 

6) Lights on the Lake: Lake Tahoe, CA

Lake Tahoe boasts the largest choreographed fireworks display west of the Mississippi. With perfect weather and so many great outdoor activities, Lake Tahoe is the perfect choice for outdoor enthusiasts for the holiday. You can enjoy hiking in the mountains, kayaking around the lake, and a little BBQ before the fireworks display kicks off a night. There are so many great places to enjoy the show from but two of the best include Nevada and Tahoe Beaches. Best of all, you can head down to Yosemite on a road trip or through the wine country of California after the holiday. 

7) Wawa Welcome America in Philadelphia

Philadelphia prides itself on its amazing 4th of July events. Everything comes together on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway which hosts the signature celebration the Wawa Welcome America. The free concert includes performances by megastars Jennifer Hudson and Meghan Trainor. You can also enjoy a fantastic fireworks display above the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The city is the perfect destination to kick off an RV trip because from here you can head up to New York City over to Washington DC or down along the Atlantic Coast.
