Editors Review

Started as a river trip guide in 2001, GoNorth Alaska has expanded their family business into motorhome, truck camper and SUV rentals, as well as  being a Travel Center in the northern territory.

What GoNorth Alaska Tells Us

As a family-owned business, the company can provide you with a very personalized service with the help of their rental expertise and network of travel partners. Unlike big companies, they are open every day, seven days a week, with locations all throughout Alaska, Western Canada and USA. Distinctively, they allow all public roads, whether these are paved or gravel. There are also one-way rentals in all locations, with some attractive specials and discounts.

Fleet

The fleet of GoNorth Alaska includes truck campers, motorhomes, trucks, SUVs and passenger vans. For the recreational vehicles— motorhomes and truck campers, these units are great to explore the scenic landscapes of the North, particularly the Dalton Highway. All RVs are equipped with electric plugs that need to be hooked up in some camp grounds. If you're travelling up to six (though more comfortable if 4 people only), you can pick the motorhomes. But if you are travelling with travellers/ hunters, then the truck is the best option.

Vehicles

Truck Camper 4×4

Unique in style and also complete in camping essentials, the truck camper is technically a camper fitted out in a truck platform. This motorhome is a 4x4 vehicle, making it ideal for the rugged and unpaved roads between all their stations. Sleeping up two or three only, this, however, is a disappointment for big families. But if you are travellers in two, you will surely enjoy all the amenities included in your rental such as shower & toilet, stove, refrigerator with freezer, kitchen sink, heater and a lot more. For this type, the company offers three Truck Campers in different age; hence, different rental rates.

Coachmen Leprechaun Motorhome 19 or 20ft

Compared to the truck campers, the motorhomes are a bit fancier and comfier, with more spacious living quarters but lower boarding step. These are two-wheeled vehicles only, so its ground clearance could not be very reliable unlike the 4x4. But if you just want to witness the scenic landscapes, including gravel roads, then this motorhome is reliable enough for your holiday. The motorhomes are suitable for small families, two adults and two children. It is also equipped with all the needed facilities. There are two types for this unit— the Gold (2016 and newer year model) and the Silver (2015 & 2014 year model).

Coachmen Leprechaun Motorhome 22 or 24ft

With bigger and more sleeping places, the Coachmen Leprechaun model at 22 or 24 ft. can cater up to 6 people and provides a more luxurious feel during your road trip. For your convenience, the entertainment system is complete with radio, CD player (the Gold ones having iPod connect, MP3 and USB connection). For the sleeping places, pick your preference— convertible dinette in the dining, double bed in the back or above the driver's cabin. And just like the above-mentioned motorhomes, these also vary in age models, as well as the size.

Insurance

In every rental with GoNorth Alaska, insurance is already included. Liability of the renter is up to $50, 000. On top of the insurance, the company requires a mandatory CDW or Collision Damage Waiver that reduces the renter's liability for collision damage into $2000 deduction and a refundable security deposit of $500 to $2000 in the form of credit card, depending on the rented vehicle. The CDW, however, does not include tires and glass coverage, but could be added for $7/day. The additional fee also reduces the renter's liability into $500 only. All these amount must be presented upon pick-up or at the start of the rental.

Reputation

GoNorth Alaska has a limited yet suitable spectrum of rental vehicles, from motorhomes to trucks. These are close to budget deals, plus more personalized trips because you'll be renting from a family-run business. Not only that, they aren't just a rental company but also a travel center, offering self-drive tours, wildlife viewing, day tours and a lot more.

Summary

GoNorth Alaska could be your one-stop shop for rentals and go-to adventures. With just a few motorhomes and truck campers on set, you will not have a hard time choosing the right one of your holiday. You can even opt for a one-way rental between their branches.
