A family venture in Houston since 1977, Smith Motor Home Rental offers reasonable pricing for their late model motorhomes that are mostly pet-friendly units.
About Smith Motor Home Rental
Serving the Houston territory for more than 4 decades, this family owned and operated motorhome business is strategically positioned north of downtown Houston and near Bush Intercontinental Airport. They have luggage storage but only limited that is why they recommend travellers to bring collapsible soft bags that can be easily stored in the rented unit. This long-running rental company, unfortunately, is not all about praises and recommendations. Yes, their prices are quite reasonable or even cheaper than other motorhome hires in the area, but the customer service and inconsistent fleet condition are continuing issues. Also, they do not have pickups and returns during Sundays.
Fleet
With a fleet that is family-oriented and pet-friendly, Smith Motor Home Rental still attracts renters in a good way. Hiring out late Sunseeker models, these motorhomes provide accommodation for 6 to 8 people. All motorhomes are automatic transmission powered by unleaded gasoline with Ford Triton V10 engine and free 100 miles per day. For convenience, each unit is provided with refrigerator, stove, gas range, air conditioning unit, heater, and TV/DVD. And for extra comfort, you can rent out their housekeeping kit that includes blankets, sheets, pillows, towels, cutlery, plates and the like. The basement has ample storage for your extra things.
Vehicles
23' Sunseeker
A basic motorhome that caters 4 to 6 people, this smaller Sunseeker features a basic interior layout with rear double bed and bathroom, transformable dinette, and optional bunk bed or entertainment center. The bunk area also has an optional window. If you want a simple unit with an uncomplicated design but functional amenities, then this 23' motorhome can give you justice.
26' Sunseeker
Slightly bigger and comfier, the 26' Sunseeker now provides a slide-out that expands the living room. Because of the added length and width, the entire back portion is for the rear bed with privacy curtain and the front area has an extra swivel chair for added seating capacity. The bathroom and kitchen are situated adjacent to each other.
29' Sunseeker
No slide-out but much-extended length, this 29' Sunseeker is good for families of 8. This spacious motorhome already comes with sofa sleeper, dinette, shower & toilet, overhead bed, kitchen and rear bedroom. The L-shaped kitchen may be not that cozy but it's pretty decent for all your cooking sessions.
31' Sunseeker
Highlighting its expansive size and layout, a family of 8 will suit up this large motorhome. At 31', the unit provides snug couch and dinette, both converting into two double beds. A step up before the bedroom gives extra distinction and privacy. There are plenty of windows fitted inside the vehicle for a more homey vibe. The L-shaped kitchen is equipped stove, sink, microwave oven, and lots of storage cabinets.
32' Deluxe
The most luxurious unit is also the largest motorhome on offer. The 32' Sunseeker features two slide-outs, one extending the living room and the other one expanding the rear bedroom. The elegance is not just limited to the exterior design but also with the interior layout. This motorhome provides a bigger kitchen with flip dining counter and optional overhead TV. The bedroom furnishes a queen bed, wardrobe, linen, nightstand and another set of TV. Both sofa bed and U-dinette have overhead cabinets.
Insurance
For the insurance, it is best to verify with the company the different insurance options. Just take note of the refundable security deposit amounting to $1,000.
Reputation
Smith Motor Home Rental no doubt offers competitive rates. Plus, they have been in the industry for quite a while now and pets are allowed inside their motorhomes. Sadly, despite the extensive rental experience, the company still haven't perfected the art of customer service. Over the years, they have struggled to maintain a positive reputation and it appears that most customers are disappointed with their overall hire. There were issues about bait and switched to booked units, unnecessary charges and overly priced cleaning fee.
Summary
Cheaper rates for late model motorhomes, Smith Motor Home Rental could be a charm but their inconsistent fleet condition and not-so-steady reputation continue to hunt prospect renters.
