1 Day: The Blue Mountains Loop
If you've only got a single day with the van, the Blue Mountains is the obvious choice — under two hours from Sydney and genuinely spectacular. Head out early to beat traffic, stop at Echo Point in Katoomba for the Three Sisters lookout, then continue on to Leura for its main street cafes and gardens before looping back. It's an easy day even with a late-morning start, and doesn't require an overnight stay if your schedule's tight.
3 Days: The Hunter Valley Weekend
A three-day weekend gives you enough time to head north into the Hunter Valley — Australia's oldest wine region — without feeling rushed. Spend day one driving up and settling into a campsite, day two exploring wineries and cellar doors at a relaxed pace, and day three either a slower morning before heading back or a detour through the Watagans if you want a bit more driving before the return leg to Sydney.
7 Days: The South Coast And Snowies Circuit
A full week opens up a proper circuit south of Sydney. Start down the Grand Pacific Drive through Wollongong and the Illawarra, continue on to Kiama for the blowhole and coastal towns, then push further south toward Jervis Bay — regularly cited as having some of the whitest sand in the country. From there, cut inland toward the Snowy Mountains for a change of scenery before looping back to Sydney via the Southern Highlands, giving you coast, mountains and countryside all in one trip.
This circuit works equally well in reverse, and can be shortened to 4–5 days by cutting the Snowy Mountains leg if you'd rather stay coastal the whole way.

- Book campsites ahead in peak season. Popular spots along the coast and in the Blue Mountains fill up quickly on weekends and school holidays.
- Check your vehicle's height and length before mountain routes. Larger motorhomes should double-check road suitability on some of the narrower Blue Mountains and Snowy Mountains roads.
- Fill up before regional legs. Fuel stops thin out once you're away from the highway, particularly heading into the Snowy Mountains.
- Build in a buffer day. Weather and traffic can eat into a tight itinerary — a week-long circuit is more enjoyable with at least half a day of slack built in.
