A back-to-base campervan rental in Auckland, Explorer Campers keeps their prices down to provide a cheap campervan hire to renters.

What Explorer Campers Tells Us

As a small, locally owned rental vehicle company, Explorer Campers is all about offering cheap rental rates. The company tags itself as a back-to-base rental as you need to start and end your trip in their one and only depot located between Auckland CBD and Auckland Airport. This will allow you to save money on their discounted rates, but of course, not on transport fees and fuel. Since 2006, the company has been a corporate sponsor of Westpac rescue helicopter, so every hire allocates a certain portion for  donation. With this on hand, it appears that Explorer Campers really isn't just about all business.

Fleet

The Explorer campervans are small yet compact and drive like cars. These are designed specifically for the scenic and sometimes rugged New Zealand scenery. Hence, all of their campervans are equipped with comfortable beds, adequate second battery systems, enough storage compartments and more. For your convenience, these units also come with rechargeable portable equipment that allows you to charge while you are on the road. However, the fleet is only composed of 2 berth campervans so the company isn't attractive for families or large groups. Plus, these units partially act as moving billboards so another downside. Therefore, set your expectations ahead of time because the vehicles aren't sort of luxury models but rather compact campervans just for a simple yet comfortable road trip.

2 berth Campervan

Small yet fully equipped, these campervans are ideal for not-so-picky renters on budget and those who wouldn't mind for a vehicle with marketing touches. In addition, these vehicles aren't for those who want luxury space and storage because you'll definitely be disappointed— no extensive leg room, no standing up and no overhead storage. Still, the campervans are all automatic with enough comforts of a home such as gas cooker, sink, cutlery, refrigerator, double bed, fresh water tank and more. Useful extras such as towels, bucket, hose and the like are provided for free. To compensate the thought of being a moving billboard, the vehicles come with tinted windows and curtains.

Insurance

Whether you hit a luxury Ferrari or get unfortunate while driving, be still because the insurance is already included in the rental. But, of course, you need to pay the insurance excess amounting to $2,500. So, to save you money during unfortunate times, you have the option to limit the liability. There are two insurance options: Comfort at $15/ day for an excess of $1,500 or No Worries at $25/ day for an excess of $500. If you opt to avail of the insurance options, you must need to present a credit card upon vehicle pick-up.

Reputation

With a reputation of very competitive rates, Explorer Campers still attracts the market, especially those on tight budget. But the cheap rates entail small campervans with less frills and more marketing exteriors. Plus, their campervans can only cater up to 2 people, which means large families may have to look for other rental companies.

Summary

Looking a cheap campervan rental in Auckland? Explorer Campers is an okay substitute to large rental entities with pricier rates. However, don't limit your options because there are certainly lots of rental companies in the market.
